This morning, the area of the gardens on Via Sannio was handed back after a significant redevelopment project, which involved the synergistic collaboration of Metro C, Rome’s Municipality (Roma Capitale), the Special Superintendency for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Rome, and Roma Metropolitane.
The garden refurbishment included not only the internal pathways but also the planting of trees, following detailed guidelines established in collaboration with the Superintendency and the Parks Service.
To enhance the significance of the archaeological findings unearthed during excavations and leave a representative trace of the imposing portico constructed under Emperor Claudius, the original travertine blocks were repositioned in the same location where they were discovered, in coordination with the Superintendency. Alongside these findings, placed on the side of the “central archaeological avenue,” a row of cypress trees has been planted to recall the pre-existing colonnade.
The handover was followed by a visit from Rome’s Mayor, Virginia Raggi, and the Deputy Mayor with responsibility for the City in Motion, Pietro Calabrese.
