The Domus of the Centurion Finalist for the Award of the International Prize “Khaled al-Assad” 2018

Recognised among the five most important archaeological discoveries of 2017, the Domus del Centurione, discovered during the excavations of the Amba Aradam- Ipponio station of the Metro C line, has been selected as one of the 5 finalists of the International Archaeological Discovery Award “Khaled al-Assad” 2018, a major world award that pays homage to the most important archaeological site discovery of the year with an annual prize.

The other discoveries that are candidates in the running are the Hellenestic Gymnasium found in Al Fayoum in Egypt, a “little Pompeii” found in Vienne in France, the oldest port of a Sumerian city in Abu Tbeirah in Iraq and a Roman city submerged in the Gulf of Hammamet, in Tunisia.  The awards ceremony is to be held on the 16th of November in Paestum, at the 21st edition of the Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism (15-18 November 2018).  A “Special Award” will also be assigned to the discovery that will have received the greatest public approval on the Facebook page of the Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism (www.facebook.com/borsamediterraneaturismoarcheologico) during the period 18 July-18 October 2018.  To vote, just access the album dedicated to the award and put “Like” against the preferred image.
