LINE C CONSTRUCTION SITES-COVID 19
The construction sites of Line C of Rome’s underground are always operational and in total safety, even during the Covid 19 pandemic. Here are the measures taken to contain the spread of the virus in construction sites and workplaces.
Work has never stopped on the construction of Line C of Rome’s Underground, currently under construction in the section that goes from San Giovanni station (not included) to Piazza Venezia, with two stations under construction, Amba/Aradam-Ipponio and Fori Imperiali station.
Metro C, in accordance with the decisions taken by the Safety Coordinator, the Occupational Health and Safety Doctors, the Workers’ Representatives and the representatives of the Trade Unions, has adopted at all construction sites, headquarters and logistical bases, the provisions of the various Decrees of the President of the Council of Ministers as well as the “shared Protocol for the regulation of measures to combat and prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus on construction sites” of 14 March, signed by the company partners and shared by the Ministry of Infastructure and Transport on 19 March.
In accordance with point 13 of the aforesaid Protocol, in collaboration with the Trade Unions and the Workers’ Safety Representatives of the companies, a Control Committee has been set up to verify the application of the proceedures set out in the Protocol itself.
The company, through appropriate proceedures, has informed all workers about the disposition of the Authorities, activating a massive training and information system to ensure the correct diffusion of the obligtions to be respected.
Metro C purchased 10.000 masks in order to make them available to all Metro C personnel company contractors and subcontractors.
Metro C personnel working on the construction sites have been given specific PPE (semi facial masks, goggles, disposable overalls, disposable gloves), while other workers, subcontractors and self-employed workers have hydroalcoholic solutions for handwashing. All other employees are provided with bottles of sanitizing gel in addition to the relative protective masks.
Before entering the construction sites and offices, all workers are subjected to the measuring of body temperature using thermoscanners or no contact thermometers.
The use of lifts or elevators is permitted to only a number of people to ensure that adequate distances are maintained between them, or alternatively the mandatory use of masks.
A shift system has been arranged in the company canteens at the base camp in “Via dei Gordiani” and the construction site of the Shaft 3.2 in “Piazza Celimontana”, with the separation of incoming and outgoing flows and seating positions so as to ensure minimum distances between people, the installation of dispensers with sanitizing products and special information signs posted inside and outside the canteen. Similar signage with an indication of behavourial standards has been affixed on all construction sites, dormitories and offices.
Stopover time in the canteens has been reduced to the time strictly necessary for the consumption of meals with the obligation to maintain a safe distance of at least one metre between people. In general, access to the common areas is restricted and continuos ventilation of the premises is guaranteed. Specific modalities have been activated for the access to workplaces by external suppliers and the transfer of personnel to the workplaces themselves. Specific chemical toilets have been positioned for the suppliers.
A special proceedure has been drawn up for the “Operating Instructions for the Cleaning of Working Environments”, which regulates the way in which the sanitation of offices and worksites is carried out and which provides, among other things, for the daily sanitation of the surroundings, work stations, canteen and common areas and the weekly sanitation of all the premises present in the worksites and base camps.
Construction site equipment (such as excavators, elevating platforms, loaders etc) used by several people are sanitized ( and the control panel, steering wheel, handles etc) at each change of operator, before and after their use.
A special proceedure has been drawn up for the management of a symptomatic person present inside the offices or in the logistical areas of the work site, with the adjustment of the barracks in order to be able to manage the people undergoing the quarantine phase.
In addition, with regard to the regulation of 24 April 2020 indicated in the integration document of the “shared Procol for the regulation of measures to combat the spread of the Covid-19 virus on constrution sites” shared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the company partners, and bearing in mind that the production units relating to Metro C personnel and the contracted and subcontracted companies are located along the entire route of the Line C under construction, the Metro C company, in agreement with the Occupational Health and Safety Doctors, the Trade Unions and Workers’ Safety Representatives for the greater protection of the workers, in order to guarantee the management of any critical issues, has prepared what is necessary for the activation of a dedicated medical service to be available to all of the workers present.
