OPEN HOUSE ROMA: SAN GIOVANNI STATION ONCE AGAIN ON DISPLAY
On 06 May 2017, on the occasion of the sixth edition of Open House Roma, Linea C’s San Giovanni station will once again be open to visitors from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event is totally free of charge, and no advance booking is required to visit the San Giovanni station without a guided tour.
To sign up for guided tours, just visit www.openhouseroma.org. The Rome Underground’s first station/museum is a genuine journey into history, telling a story about the city of Rome that begins in the contemporary age and takes us all the way back, at platform level, to prehistoric times.
The visit will be a real journey back in time, traversing the place’s transformations over the centuries as we descend into the subsoil. Exhibited in display cases, the finds unearthed during the works – including clay pipes from the early Empire, amphorae, jewellery, statues, coins, and ancient tools from the first century AD – dialogue with the station’s contemporary spaces, telling the story of Rome’s past and future.
More than 11,000 people took advantage of the opportunity to visit the station during the Open Day on 01 April.
Part of the international Open House Worldwide event, Open House is a major architectural event held on 4 continents and in 31 cities.
Open House Roma is a yearly event – in this case, 06 and 07 May – that, in a single weekend, allows citizens to visit hundreds of Roman buildings endowed with special architectural and artistic characteristics, turning their attention not only to historic buildings but also to the modern and contemporary heritage, and to the work sites of a transforming city. The rich programme of events, visits, and tours is available at the site:
